What Is state Conference?
State Conference is an event organised and supported by United Nations Youth Tasmania that aims to enrich and inspire young Tasmanians with a passion for international relations and global issues. The four day event which runs from 30th March until 2nd of April will give 60 young Tasmanians the opportunity to debate resolutions, engage with experts of international relations and meet other young people who have volunteered and worked in political and global fields. State Conference is open to students studying in years 10, 11, 12 or equivalent.
UN Youth Tasmania’s State Conference is held every year and provides an opportunity for delegates to become representatives of their community, state and country through the work of UN Youth Australia. Find out more about UN Youth Tasmania here.

Re-Write History
Want the chance to Re-Write History? During the conference delegates will attend workshops in which they learn about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and explore the ways in which it can be re-written to best represent the world we live in today.
Students will be asked to consider the effects on our human rights of technology, changes in gender, relationships, citizenship, travel, nationalism and much more. This is an exciting opportunity for young Tasmanians with a passion for human rights and international justice and is an important initiative for UN Youth Tasmania in advocating the voices of young Australians on matters of global importance!
Workshops & Interactive Problem Solving
Delegates will take part in a wide variety of workshops that explore the functions and history of the United Nations and human rights. Always a highlight with students, our interactive problem solving is another form of workshop in which delegates are asked to assume roles and help diffuse global conflicts. They might be called upon to defuse a nuclear standoff or help avoid economic crisis!
Speakers Panel & Q&A Debate

State Conference 2012 will involve a speakers panel in which delegates and
members of other Tasmanian youth organisations will be able to listen to and ask questions of young people who are already making important changes within their local and global communities. Our panelists have some incredible stories to tell and will show attendees that even at a young age there are many differences we can make and achievements we can accomplish.
The Q&A debate will feature experts in the field of international relations and provide an exciting opportunity for delegates to further explore some of the more challenging issues in global politics. This debate will also be open to members of the public and will be a rare opportunity to listen to passionate as well as expert opinions.
Model United Nations Debate
Delegates at State Conference 2012 will spend two days of the conference participating in model UN debate. These debates require delegates to act as the representative of a member of the United Nations in committees, councils and the General Assembly. Delegates will be asked to speak to resolutions in their role as a representative. These resolutions will discuss issues of importance in international relations, ranging from military conflicts, questions of human and environmental rights and the economy.
