About UN Youth
United Nations Youth Tasmania is a division of UN Youth Australia, an organisation run by young people under the age of 25 that aims to educate and inspire Australian Youth in regards to issues of international relations and the work of the United Nations. Every year UN Youth Tasmania runs events which allow delegates and members to engage with other like-minded young people, participate in model UN debate and be an active, vocal member of their community. Their work has seen young Tasmanians travel all over Australia and the world through the wide variety of programs organised and sponsored by UN Youth Australia.
The Tasmanian division meets fortnightly and is always ready to welcome new members!
UN Youth Australia, believing in the purposes and principles of the United Nations, aims to encourage young people to strive towards a greater understanding of global issues, and to educate them about the United Nations' structure, functions and future. Operating as a national network of young volunteers, UN Youth Australia is based firmly on a philosophy of best practice youth-for-youth leadership.
UN Youth Australia aims to develop students' skills in vital areas such as debating, negotiation, leadership, problem-solving and understanding of international affairs in an accessible and supportive environment. By encouraging young people to discuss and debate important issues amongst their peers and the broader community, UN Youth Australia gives voice to the concerns of young people.
Ultimately, UN Youth Australia plays a dual role as an educational and advocacy body for Australia's young people.
UN Youth Australia comprises eight Divisions, one operating in each Australian State and Territory and collectively forming the National Council from which UN Youth Australia receives it mandate. UN Youth Australia's Divisions, National Executive, National Officers, MDA Conveners and the Directors of its international activities all meet together twice each year. These meetings run for four days preceding UN Youth Australia's major national activities.
Members of UN Youth Australia's Divisions are individuals aged between 15 and 25, drawn from a broad spectrum of social and political persuasions, occupations, ethnicities, backgrounds and experiences.
UN Youth Australia offers a correspondingly diverse range of opportunities to its members, and also seeks to facilitate individual initiatives in youth issues, youth engagement and the United Nations.
