Civics Education Policy Campaign 2011/12
UN Youth Tasmania's policy campaign for 2011-12 is focussed on Civics Education. Civics is the part of the curriculum where students are taught about the political and legal system in which they live. Education about such topics as Democracy, Politics, Elections, Human Rights, and International Relations come under this heading - all of which form the core of what UN Youth is interested in promoting.
The policy campaign - run by UN Youth Tasmania's policy officer Tom Marshall will attempt to assess the state of the civics curriculum today, and determine the best way to improve it. In 2012/13 the civics component of the new National Curriculum will be written, and part of the goal of this policy campaign is to guide an eventual submission to that process from UN Youth Australia at a national level.
The first part of the process is consultative. Tom is running a survey to try and assess the state of civics education today, and the attitudes of students towards it. You can fill out the survey here, and please encourage all your friends to fill it out as well. It takes about 5 minutes.
Make sure you stay tuned to further updates on this exciting policy campaign by signing up to the UN Youth Tasmania mailing list via the form to the right of your screen.
